Seattle’s NPR station featured an audio a segment on the book ‘The Garden of Democracy’ by Eric Lui and Nick Hanauer. It’s a small but powerful book about the importance of civic engagement and thinking beyond your four walls and into the wider community and the health of our country and planet.
How can you not love Nick Hanauer’s message as a rich privileged business man, a smart inheritor who is calling for more taxes on high earners in our country? Here is his TED Talk that was controversial and pulled off for a short while before being reposted. According to the Washington Post”Chris Anderson, head honcho at TED, has responded to Nick Hanauer’s claims that his TED talk was censored. TED, Anderson says, tries “to steer clear of talks that are bound to descend into the same dismal partisan head-butting people” and that Hanauer “framed the issue in a way that was explicitly partisan.”
He is also featured in the GQ article called Amber Waves of Green. You have to admire his willingness to speak out and stand up as a citizen concerned about his country beyond his own threshold.
